Community Engagement Event in West Lindsey

To:    Town / Parish Councils

Dear all,

I’m writing to let you know about a community engagement exercise that will be taking place in West Lindsey and also in three other neighbouring authority areas with regards to the Trent Supercluster.

As many of you are aware the Trent Supercluster is a clean energy and innovation hub centered on three former coal sites, West Burton, High Marnham, and Cottam. It is placing the East Midlands/ Lincolnshire at the cutting edge of clean energy and high-tech innovation – including nuclear, green hydrogen, and data centres.

The supercluster spans approximately 14 miles along the River Trent in Nottinghamshire close to West Lindsey. It is already home to the UK Government’s world-leading Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) fusion prototype and the UK’s largest green hydrogen production facility.

Starting next week, Bassetlaw District Council on behalf of the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) will be launching  Know Your Place Trent Valley (KYPTV).

It is a community engagement approach that is looking to build understanding of local communities either side of the River Trent across parts of four local authority areas - Bassetlaw, West Lindsey, Newark and Sherwood, and North Kesteven. The data collected from these conversations will be published and used to help create local profile reports that will help define local priorities and to inform decisions makers regarding emerging projects such as the Trent Supercluster.

To support discussion and engagement, there will be a number of drop-in events around the Trent Valley region throughout summer 2026.

The first event will be held next week in West Lindsey on Wednesday 10 June from 4-7pm at Blyton Memorial Hall (Flyer attached). All residents within the Trent Valley engagement area are welcome to attend any of the events.

The team will be speaking to residents to understand what they like, and dislike, about their local community as it is now. They are also keen to understand the potential challenges and opportunities that the area could face in 2040, in light of the expected developments in the Trent Valley.

If residents can’t make the in-person event they are welcome to attend our other events across the region - we’re hosting at least two a week across the summer - or they can submit our digital response form online. All this information can be found on the project website: https://www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/kyptv

West Lindsey District Council will be sharing and promoting the event on social media channels, but if you could also share the details then it would be much appreciated.

The more residents that take part, the more successful the engagement campaign will be - meaning more data on your area to help define your priorities and better inform decision makers.

Hope this is all helpful

Kind regards

Julie
